Although the days kids have attended school in January seem few and far between, some exciting learning has taken place! In case you have not heard from the very motivated second graders, we began cursive instruction. During second grade, the students are introduced to the lower case cursive letters. We have learned the letters "i" and "t" thus far which does allow them to write the word it! Any modeling of cursive writing and exposure will benefit the experience of learning this new method of writing.
Math Unit 5 on geometry has been completed and the students did enjoy this shift from computation focus. In Unit 6 we are back at addition and subtraction. Now the kids will be adding and subtracting multidigit numbers with regrouping. We used base 10 blocks today to go through the process of borrowing from the 10's place for subtraction. Dreambox, xtramath.org, and Everyday Mathematics Online continue to be great avenues of practice for the kids. Good old paper and pencil practice of addition and subtraction with and without regrouping are also a wonderful opportunities for practice. Thanks for all the work that is done to support what we do at school.
Stay warm and be well!!
