Independent Study Projects
The second graders have been working on Independent Study projects. During this time, the students select a topic of interest and develop questions to guide their research. They are also given choice on what type of project or finished product they would like to create and share with peers. Many students chose to work in partnerships and creating a poster was the popular choice. Please view our pictures below.

Math Concepts This Month
We have covered heavy topics recently in math with fractions and measurement. Some of the concepts were new to kids and we will continue to review during our workshop. As you see on the Home Links, the kids are working with money and learning about the decimal point. They have been using their calculator to add money amounts. Please continue to use hands on experiences with making change at home.
We had some excellent discussion about whether or not the penny should be made any more. Also, we talked a bit about finance and budgeting and the use of estimation while shopping. The kids love thinking about math in the real world!
Biography projects
We also wrote a class biography about our superintendent, Dr. Jerome. This was very exciting because the kids conducted an interview and then created a shared book and presentation. We are in the process of finishing this project and I will post it when it is complete.

Check out Science and Literacy Games
Check out the science page for a fun activity that helps you connect what you know about Force and Motion. It might remind some of you of the board game "MouseTrap". The literacy page has a new addtion of homophone games and videos. Enjoy!
